Livia Marin

Artist & Sculptor

London, UK

Livia Marin is a London-based Chilean artist whose work is characterised by the appropriation of mass-produced and mass-consumed objects. Her wall art and installation pieces express the decay of the everyday.

Livia Marin

I mostly use themes such as serialisation, repetition and estrangement of what is familiar in my artwork. What fascinates me about everyday objects are the traces of humanity that lie in them and that can be brought to the fore in art.

In 2012 Livia was awarded a PhD in Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Born and raised in Chile, she also holds a BA and MA in the Arts.

Livia's artworks examine how we relate to materials in an era dominated by standardisation and global distribution. Using mixed media, she celebrates the cultural and economic circulation of materials, skills and global power relations. Central to her work is the idea of estrangement, including loss and care, which operate to reverse the excess of familiarity. Honouring the Japanese art of kintsugi, traces of time and human intervention characterise each giclée image, marking the process of repair and rebirth.
